CAREER DECISIONS AFTER 10TH
Std
X results & the million dollar question “What Next?” is
probably the most
common thing than anything else that comes to your mind. It is
that crucial
question which has the answers leading to many a dream,
aspirations and growth
in one’s life. It is a time to put on the thinking caps and get
geared to choose
a course / career that would be a turning point in most of your
lives.
Confusion
regarding the choice of the stream is common to all. Ironically
the decision is
left on the percentage obtained. It is found that, atypical
outlook of the
maximum population is found to be very stereotype. Most of them
think that, it
is very prestigious to opt for science, as it is the only way of
utilizing the
higher percentage obtained, since it provide various avenues. Then if not science then,
second option,
commonly seen is Commerce. Arts [Humanities] stream is mostly
kept as the last
resort. The general impression being that Arts does not have
much scope or
provide many avenues. Also, if the Arts stream is opted for, it
is through a
process of elimination rather than a process of selection. Home
Science and
Fine Arts as a Stream is generally ignored or restricted to the
girls only,
another idea related to it is that, they cannot be taken up as
profession. This
mindset arises due to lack of awareness. Results,
very rarely are the way we expect them to be.
Many a times, it
also brings
disappointments and concerns about “what can I do now”?
Typically, Arts,
Science & Commerce the age-old options, have been tried and
tested and made
many a dream come true and probably not fulfilled quite a few
too. This
generates one more question “What Else?” that could be pursued
apart from these
three most popular fields. With the increase the different
profiles of jobs
available, there also has been felt the need to take up courses
which lay the
road to success in those fields. Home-science, Fine Arts are a
few to mention.
Lets explore a few of them:

Decisions
get many
a times delayed because of lack of information, but even excess
of information
and options cause confusion. Especially
in terms of career it is essential to make the right and
appropriate decisions
at the first go. Decisions should be based on the scope offered
by the career,
the interest level, the capacity to carry out the activity and
whether the
personality suits the same. It is better to get oneself assessed
before taking
any decisions. One can contact counselling centres like Growth
Centre to ensure
that the first step towards career is the right one. Then only
in the true
sense, can the ‘options’ be ‘real options’.
